My intention with my ex was to build something strong—something greater than what either of us could be alone. But life has a way of showing you the truth, and thankfully, he recently gave me the wake-up call I needed.
It wasn’t the first time I had seen the signs, but I could no longer ignore them.
As I reflected, I realized something powerful:
I deserve more.
I love myself too much to settle for less than what I give. I won’t accept half-hearted love, empty promises, or a one-sided effort. And since I know I’m not the first person to experience heartbreak, I want to share some valuable lessons I learned the hard way.
1. Always Trust Your Gut
Your heart and head may never fully agree, but your gut—your core—it never lies.
You can ignore the red flags, convince yourself he’ll change one day, or pretend that love alone is enough to make things work… but why?
Why waste your precious time when the inevitable outcome is heartbreak?
2. Actions > Words
What he says only matters when it aligns with what he does.
You are smart. You are strong. You deserve love that is given just as freely as you give yours. Don’t settle for anything less.
3. Accept the Truth
Love is either there or it’s not.
You can’t force it.
You can’t manipulate it.
You can’t control it.
If someone doesn’t love you fully, wholly, and consistently, nothing you do will change that.
4. You Can Only Fix Yourself
You can’t fix him. You can’t make him love you the way you want to be loved.
But you can love yourself enough to walk away.
You can focus on your own growth.
You can become the change you wish to see.
5. Know Your Standards—And Stick to Them
I look for honesty, loyalty, and undeniable chemistry.
I won’t accept anything less—
No matter how handsome the package.
No matter how intoxicating the attraction.
No matter how smooth the words.
Because real love isn’t about chasing.
It’s about choosing—every single day.
And from now on, I choose me.
