In recent years, cybercrime in India has been rising, with scammers finding new ways to cheat people. One of the most common tricks is impersonating police or CBI officers to scare victims into paying money. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, in 2021 alone, 52,974 cybercrime cases were reported across the country, with over 60% of them involving fraud.
But while most people fall for these scams, one young man from Kanpur decided to fight back—and ended up scamming the scammer instead!
The Fake CBI Officer’s Call
Bhupendra Singh, a resident of Kanpur, received a shocking phone call from a man claiming to be a CBI officer. The caller accused him of having explicit videos and threatened him with legal action unless he paid ₹16,000 to “settle the matter.” To make the scam seem real, the fraudster even sent a fake complaint letter as proof.
Most people would panic, but Bhupendra didn’t. Instead of getting scared, he decided to check the truth.
How Bhupendra Outsmarted the Scammer
Bhupendra used Google Lens, a tool that scans images, to verify the complaint letter. It was fake! He realized he was dealing with a scammer—and that’s when he came up with a genius plan to reverse the scam.
The Master Plan: Trick the Trickster!
Instead of refusing to pay, Bhupendra pretended to cooperate and spun a dramatic story:
He told the scammer, “Sir, I don’t have money right now, but I stole a gold chain from my family and pawned it. If you lend me ₹3,000, I’ll get the chain back, sell it for ₹20,000, and give you the full amount!”
The scammer fell for it and immediately sent him ₹3,000.
Over the next few days, Bhupendra kept making up new excuses and managed to extract ₹10,000 from the fraudster. At one point, he even got a friend to act as a jeweller to make his story more believable!
The Ultimate UNO Reverse!
In the end, the scammer got scammed! Bhupendra not only saved himself from being cheated but also tricked the fraudster into losing his own money.
This story is a perfect example of how thinking smart can help you beat scammers at their own game. While not everyone should try to scam a scammer, this incident proves that cybercriminals aren’t as smart as they think!
