In 2022, the presence of sex workers in our society is undeniable. Whether you’re seeking escorts in Perth or a dominatrix in the UK, sex work is everywhere. Yet, when it comes to dating a sex worker, many face prejudice, misconceptions, and confusion.
As a sex worker who’s been in relationships, I’m here to share insights to help those navigating love with someone in this field.
1. Sex work is work, not an invitation for rescue.
Sex work offers flexibility, autonomy, and financial stability that other jobs don’t. It’s not a plea to be “saved.” Understanding this is crucial in any relationship with a sex worker.
2. Monogamy is possible.
Contrary to popular belief, many sex workers are in committed, long-term, monogamous relationships. For us, sex work is just a job, not something that interferes with our ability to love.
3. Boundaries and communication are key.
Feelings like jealousy are natural, but it’s important to communicate openly. Discussing boundaries early on fosters a healthy relationship and understanding.
4. The media doesn’t reflect our reality.
What you see on TV about sex work is often exaggerated. In reality, our work can be as mundane as any other service job. We have good and bad days, clients who challenge us, and colleagues who support us.
Dating a sex worker means understanding that we are not defined by our work.
We’re caring, thoughtful individuals who deserve love and respect, just like anyone else.
